Gracie Miranda is pleased to announce our female only Jiu Jitsu classes! Our Women’s only Gracie Jiu Jitsu classes will be run every Saturday morning at 9am by Sarah Gee Kee! Sarah is an amazing coach and is excited to be able to help you navigate your way through the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Our classes are run by women for women! They are specifically designed so that you can learn tried and proven Gracie Jiu Jitsu in a fun, safe and supportive environment. So, what will you encounter in our Women’s program?
The primary focus of our women’s program is self defence. Why you may ask? Even though we may live in one of the safest countries on Earth, violence against women is still one of our society’s biggest problems. In fact, the Australian bureau of statistics reports that “1 in 4 women have experienced emotional abuse by a current or former partner since the age of 15.” (Australian Bureau of Statistics. (2017). Personal Safety Survey 2016. ABS cat. no. 4906.0. Canberra: ABS. Retrieved from: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/mf/4906.0). We all have a duty to ensure that the females in our lives feel safe, valued and empowered. This is a moral obligation for us all to uphold. And it starts here with Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
Whilst not everyone may want to compete, we do encourage our women to try competition at least once. This simulates a real life confrontation, and the adrenaline and emotional states are similar to what you may encounter in a real life conflict. Learning how to stay calm and keep your composure in these types of situation is so important. This is another key element of Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
One of the great things about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that you get to test what you learn in a safe and supportive environment. We cater for all fitness levels. Don’t worry if you aren’t super fit. Our experienced instructors will help guide you through with advice and encouragement, so we build your fitness over time.
The friendships you make in Jiu Jitsu last a lifetime! The bonds that build over time through the effort and sweat on the mats are very strong. Ask anyone who trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and they will tell you that the friends they have made are some of the best friendships ever. All this in an environment where you have fun and learn this great martial art.
